Almost always
Our audit is $4,999. Several providers sell a focused review of one repository for under $1,000, and one sells a written opinion for $49. If budget is the binding constraint, take the cheaper option and spend the difference on fixing what it finds.
For investor diligence
A fund should not commission a review from a company that might later be hired to do the remediation. That is a structural conflict, not a matter of good intentions. Independent reviewers exist and publish fixed prices for exactly this.
For large teams, fast
We are a small senior team. If you need many engineers staffed within weeks, a larger agency or a staffing partner will serve you better, and will say yes faster than we will.
For pentests and certification
A formal penetration test and a SOC 2 or ISO certification are separate professions with their own credentials. We build toward those requirements; we do not issue the report or the certificate.
The one thing we are actually best at
You have a codebase you cannot assess yourself. Someone else built it, or an AI tool did, or you did and it got away from you. The decision in front of you is not "is this code good" but "do I keep building on this", and every answer you have had so far came from someone with a reason to want a particular outcome.
That question needs a senior engineer to hold the whole system in their head for several days and then commit to a view. A 72-hour scan cannot produce it, because nobody had time to form one. A large agency can, but you will hear it from an account manager two weeks later.
We answer it in five business days, in plain language, with the engineer who read the code on the call. If the answer is that your codebase is fine, we say that, and it is the cheapest outcome we can hand you.
