AI engineering capacity for growth-stage CTOs

You need engineering capacity that ships AI features without 6 months of senior hiring. Embedded squads, staff augmentation, or AI-Enabled Teams. Senior engineers, no junior pretenders.

Audience fit

Is this you?

A quick fit check before either side spends time on a call.

Who this is for

  • CTOs / VP Engineering at funded companies (Series A+)
  • Companies adding AI features to existing products
  • Engineering teams of 10–100 people needing surge capacity
  • CTOs who've tried to hire AI engineers and hit the 6-month wall
  • Companies needing AI velocity without permanent headcount

Who this isn’t for

  • Pre-seed startups with no technical leadership; a different engagement pattern fits better
  • Companies looking to outsource everything; we augment, we don’t replace
  • Enterprises with strict on-site or location requirements; we’re remote-first

Engagement handoff

What we typically do for ctos

Choose how much ownership moves across the table. The handoff stays explicit from day one.

01

Embedded Squad

A dedicated 3–6 person pod that owns part of your roadmap and works autonomously alongside your team.

02

Staff Augmentation

Senior engineers integrated into your team: your repos, your standups, and your tech lead reviewing their work.

03

AI-Enabled Teams

A velocity boost via internal AI tooling that helps your existing engineers ship AI features faster.

04

Tech Audit

An architecture review before major changes, giving you a clean read on your system before you scope a bigger engagement.

05

Project Build

Defined feature builds running in parallel to your roadmap, shipped to production on a fixed scope.

Starting point

Where most ctos start

Embedded Squad or Staff Augmentation

For most CTOs, the right starting point is either an Embedded Squad (an autonomous pod on your roadmap) or Staff Augmentation (individual senior engineers reporting to you). A Tech Audit is useful first when you want to assess an existing system before scoping the engagement.

A note from the founder

From the founder

I started Robust Devs in 2019 after watching too many good products die between agencies. The pattern was always the same: big promises in the sales call, silence by week six. We built this firm to be the opposite of that. A small senior team, honest scope, and the uncomfortable truth delivered early.

If you are building in marketing, healthtech, or fintech, tell me what you are working on. If we are not the right team for it, I will say so on the first call and point you somewhere better.

You don't need more headcount. You need more capacity.

Embedded squads, staff augmentation, and AI-Enabled Teams that ship on your roadmap; not a parallel agenda. Senior engineers who report to your tech lead, in your repos, on your standups.
